More about me
My name is Asal Shahid and I was born in 1993 in Tehran—Asal means “honey” in my language (Farsi / Persian). I’m originally from Iran, where I lived for 30 years before beginning a life of exploring the world abroad.
Art has always been a part of who I am. From an early age, I explored different forms of creativity, including painting, calligraphy and design. I studied architecture and earned my master’s degree, working as an architect and designer along the way.
In 2021, I began focusing more deeply on Persian calligraphy, developing my skills through dedicated study. After moving abroad, I continued creating with whatever materials I could find, turning limitations into inspiration. During a simple period of living in Senegal with almost nothing in an empty apartment and waiting for the container of our furniture, calligraphy became not just a passion—but the beginning of my artistic journey as a business.
Experience
My calligraphic work is mainly created using two styles: Khat-e Neshat and vertical composition. Both approaches were introduced by Saeid Naghashian, an Iranian calligrapher, typographer, and graphic designer.
